About me
Hi, my name is Dora Collins, my family and I have relocated to Reno last summer to be near family. We moved here from Lake Havasu City, Arizona, home of the famous London Bridge and yes it really was 128 last summer! We found The Honors Academy of Literature much the same way you did, as a school of choice for our son who is a scholar here at the Academy. I have a total of four children a 21 year old daughter in her Sr. Year at Northern Arizona University,\\ she is studying to be a teacher. I have a 16 year old son who is a Sr. at McQueen High School, he is interested in anything with a ball, but moving to a larger school he had to pick a sport so he went with Soccer, he is also part of the ROTC. My middle son is 15 and a sophomore at McQueen High School he is very social and will be trying out for soccer this year. My 13 year old has joined me here at The Honors Academy of Literature. Finally husband Richard I am sure you will see about as he is an active parent volunteer is a retired Pastoral Deacon, who is happy to be out of the heat.
I tell you about how well my children are doing not to brag about my skills as a parent but to show you what difference a school of choice can make in the life and education of your child. Arizona has had Character schools for a little longer than Nevada. We moved our daughter to the charter school in 5th grade when the public school teacher admitted to being overwhelmed by demands the school put on her and was unable to meet her needs. She had fallen behind in all subjects and most of all in Math. When she entered she tested a year behind in skill level in math and below level in reading. At the end of the year she showed a two year growth in reading and one and half year growth in Math. Now she is straight A’s in college so it shows the learning sticks. Both my boys left the small K-12 charter with an almost identical approach as The Honor’s Academy of Literature and they are doing really well at the High School. So you really have made the best choice for you student by choosing a school of choice.
I have over twenty years of experience working in the educational field and love it more each day. I look forward to getting to know you and your family.
